The family reunification program, also known as the sponsorship program, is a procedure by which a Canadian citizen or permanent resident may reunite with his or her immediate family in Canada.
If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you may sponsor certain members of your immediate family. This will allow you to sponsor the following people in a non-exhaustive manner:
• Your parents or grandparents
• A dependent child;
• A spouse or common-law partner;
• Other family members (Siblings, nephew, niece, grandson or granddaughter)
There are certain conditions that need to be verified if you're going to sponsor your mother, father, or grandparents. Among other conditions, you must:
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
• Commit to providing financial support to the individuals you want to sponsor;
• Prove relationship to your parents, if applicable;
• Prove relationship to your grandparents, if applicable;

The sponsorship of a child in charge is different from that mentioned above. If you wish to sponsor your child or a dependent child, you must also meet a number of criteria, including:
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
• Not be charged and guilty of a serious offence;
• Have a clean criminal record.

If you want to apply under the family class as a spouse or common-law partner, you also need to meet some non-exhaustive criteria:
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
• Be at least 18 years old;
• Have no criminal record.
